The Iranian opposition said that the Tehran regime has issued 34 death sentences since the beginning of the current year. Thirty-one men are condemned to hang, and three women will be stoned to death.
The Iranian National Resistance Council said these figures show a 70% increase over capital punishment sentences issued during the same period in 2000. Twenty-six of the death sentences were handed out by Tehran courts.
The Council appealed to international human rights organisations to take a strong stand against the flagrant breaches of human rights in Iran.
