The Pakistan Supreme Court upheld the death sentences passed on three defendants in a murder case. Sajjad, Aurengzeb and Nisar had been originally condemned to death by a trial court in Rawalpindi for the murders of young brothers Bilal Butt and Ikram Butt. The victims were attacked and shot dead by the defendants on May 16, 1990 when they went to watch a disco dance organized by Sajjad at his house on occasion of his marriage, according to trial documents. A high court on appeal commuted Sajjad's and Aurengzeb's death sentences to 10 years rigorous imprisonment, whereas Nisar was acquitted. The accused appealed to be acquitted, whereas Muhammad Ikram Butt, the father of the deceased challenged the acquittal and the reduction of sentences before the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court dismissed the appeal filed by the accused and accepted the appeal of the complainant. It set aside the judgement of the High Court and upheld the ruling of the trial court.
