The Pattani Provincial Court in Thailand sentenced Sakkariya Yimahama, a Muslim man, to death for killing a policeman in Pattani. The sentences were handed down on December 30, but only made public on January 13, 2004, for fear of widening the gap between the state and southern Muslims. The court sentenced Sakkariya to death for killing Police Lieutenant/Corporal Seksak Iadwaree in Pattani on May 7, 2003.
