to mark the ordinance ceremony of the Human Rights Commission in Sierra Leone, President Ahmed Tejan Kabbah announced that the death penalty will no longer be applied while he is in power. However, he added that capital punishment will be maintained in the codes of the country to dissuade criminals. Kabbah will remain in power until the next election scheduled for July, 2007.
