UN RIGHTS CHIEF URGES REVIEW OF IRAN DEATH SENTENCES

Navi Pillay, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, called on Iran's high courts to review death sentences imposed on three people arrested after Iran's disputed presidential election. "There are major concerns about how the trials were conducted," Pillay said. "Imposing death sentences for crimes not resulting in loss of life is contrary to" the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, she said.
