USA - Illinois. Judge David Lee Vincent III sentenced Gregory Bowman to death

Circuit Judge David Lee Vincent III agreed with the Oct. 23 (see) jury's recommendation and sentenced Gregory Bowman to death. Bowman, 58, white, was sentenced in the 1977 killing of 16-year-old Velda Rumfelt. The jury that convicted the 58-year-old Bowman in October recommended the death penalty. (see Oct. 23). Bowman hadn't been a suspect in the case until early 2007 when a St. Louis County cold case squad matched DNA from semen found on Rumfelt's clothing to Bowman. In 2001, Bowman submitted a DNA sample to authorities in a bid to be cleared in the slaying of 2 other girls. 6 years later, the DNA match to Rumfelt was made.
