USA - Ohio. The 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeal upheld Ohio's secrecy law

A divided panel of the 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals has voted 2-1 to uphold a federal district court order denying death row prisoners who are challenge Ohio's new lethal injection protocol access to information about the producers and suppliers of drugs the state plans to use in carrying out executions. Last fall, now-retired Judge Gregory Frost issued a protective order that said Ohio’s need to obtain supplies of lethal drugs outweighed concerns by death row inmates that information about the drugs, including names of the manufacturers, is needed to meaningfully challenge them. Today’s ruling upheld Frost’s order. Ohio has scheduled eight executions for 2017, with the first currently set for February 15.
