The State Supreme Court overturned the 2012 overturning of the death sentence of Terrance Williams. Williams, 48, Black, was convicted in 1986 and sentenced to death on July 1, 1987 for the June 11,1984 murder of Amos Norwood, 56. At the time, Williams was 18. Williams was also convicted and sentenced to 27 years for the third-degree murder of Herbert Hamilton, 50, he committed on January 26, 1984, when he was still 17. Williams was set to be executed on Oct. 3, 2012. But on September 28, 2012 (see), Philadelphia County Judge Maria Teresa Sarmina vacated the sentence and excoriated the assistant District Attorney Andrea Foulkes in charge of the case for suppressing evidence and gross prosecutorial misconduct. In an opinion issued by the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania toay, Justice J. Michael Eakin absolved Foulkes and wrote that Sarmina had attempted to circumvent a valid death sentence.
