This year, the United States should not exceed the number of executions of the past few years, and then confirm the positive trend. On November 15, Texas has carried out the execution No. 40 of 2012. 4 executions are scheduled before the end of the year: in Oklahoma (Dec. 4), in Arizona (Dec. 5), in Florida and Indiana (Dec. 11). Several observers believe that the execution of Indiana will be suspended. If not being suspended and / or postponed any of the other 3 executions, 2012 would end with 43 executions. In 2011 there were 43 46 in 2010, 52 in 2009. Only in 2007 (42) and in 2008 (37) executions were a number less than 43, due to a de facto moratorium period between September 2007 and April 2008 engendered by waiting for the decision of the Supreme Court on the constitutionality of Kentucky's lethal injection protocol, then confirmed on April 16, 2008 (see). In all the years before the executions were many more: 53 in 2006, 60 in 2005, 59 in 2004, 65 in 2003, 71 in 2001, and so on.
