the People's Court of southern Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, handed down death penalties to eight local people involved in a transnational drug trafficking ring. The court also passed life sentences to nine people, and sentences ranging from 5-20 years to 15 others. It was alleged that prior to arrest in mid-2004, the convicts had brought 78 kg of heroin from Laos and Cambodia and resold it in the city.
