VIETNAM: FIVE DRUG TRAFFICKERS SENTENCED TO DEATH

In Vietnam, the People’s Court of the mountainous northern province of Son La sentenced five members of a massive drug trafficking ring to death following a 10-day trial.
They are Doan Manh Thuy, Nguyen Thi Bien, Nguyen Trung Manh, Nguyen Xuan Nguyen and Nguyen Thi Ha.
Six other members of the ring, Nguyen Tuan Anh, Trinh Van Thu, Nguyen Ba Doi, Cao Van Tuan, Tran Thi Ty and Tran Van Cuong were sentenced to life imprisonment. A further 12 members received jail sentences of between 15-20 years.
According to the indictment, the members of the ring trafficked 110 bars of heroin weighing a total of 37.4 kg and 80 methamphetamine pills – a street total value of over 2.2 billion VND (100,000 USD) and 9,800 USD from 2006 to April, 2011.
