Yeshiwork Desta Zewdu, a 20 years old Ethiopia woman was sentenced to death by a Bahraini court in November after she was found guilty of killing her Filipino employer in 1998. The Ethiopian government officially sent a petition to the Bahraini government, requesting for a stay on the death penalty with signatures of more than 10,000 residents in Addis Ababa, which were collected from civil servants, employees of civic organizations and private individuals. It was said that, at the time of the crime Yeshiwork was 17 years and 10 months old-a minor-thereby, should not have been tried in a criminal court. Her mental state at that time should also have been another reason for her to be set free.
