A 23-year-old German student faces the death penalty after Singapore charged her with trafficking controlled drugs in the city state.
Court documents show Julia Suzanne Bohl, who was arrested on March 13, has been charged with possessing about 687 grams of cannabis for the purpose of trafficking.
The death penalty is mandatory in Singapore for trafficking in 500 grams or more of cannabis.
A German foreign ministry spokesman said its Singapore embassy is in contact with the woman, who he said had lived in the island state for more than a year.
Also charged along with Bohl were two Singaporeans, including the alleged leader of the ring. All three will remain in custody until the next hearing on March 22.
