A 30-year-old unemployed man was sentenced to death by the Criminal Court on conviction of killing an on-duty police officer and injuring several others in a series of four armed robberies taking place in September 1998. Fayez Salman, a Karak resident, was declared guilty by the tribunal for the shooting to death Sergeant Ghazi Ajarameh and for critically injuring his colleague, First Lieutenant Raed Khasbeh, on Sept. 12, 1998.
