A Cairo criminal court sentenced two men to hang for murdering a deaf-mute teenager, court sources said. They said Ahmed Mohamed Higazy was found guilty of luring the 17-year-old girl to an isolated place and raping her after her father rejected his request to marry her.Higazy, who is also deaf, and a friend then tied her up, killed her by slitting her throat, and buried her body in the desert on the outskirts of Cairo, the sources said.Both men had previously been convicted of the charges and sentenced to death, but an appeals court had ordered a retrial for technical reasons.The court sources said three other deaf acquaintances of Higazy, who met the girl while they were students at a school for hearing-impaired children, were convicted of helping Higazy but found not guilty of participating in the murder.They were sentenced to between one and eight years in jail for their roles in the crime. A fourth, under-age defendant faces trial in juvenile court.No date was set for the execution, and the defendants can appeal against their sentences.
