A court in Bangladesh sentenced a young man to death by hanging in absentia for violating a girl

A court in Bangladesh sentenced a young man to death by hanging in absentia for violating a girl.
Pronouncing the death sentence to Jewel Akand of Baro Masua village in Mathbaria upazila, the District and Sessions Judge said the convict might appeal to the higher court within 7 days.
According to the prosecution, Jewel fell in love with Ankhi Akter (20), daughter of Abul Hossain. He violated the girl on April 29,1999 promising that he would marry her.
When the boy soon backed out of his promise, Ankhi filed a case against Jewel under the Women and Child Repression Act.
