A court in Kazakhstan's northern Kostanay Region sentenced a man to death for murder, the Interfax-Kazakhstan news agency reported.
"The Kostanay Regional court has sentenced a gang member who took an active part in killing the members of a peasant family to capital punishment - to death," the agency said quoting the deputy prosecutor of Kostanay Region, Vasiliy Oleynik.
The gang members killed the members of a peasant family in Sarykol District of Kostanay Region in March 2001 "in order to get money," the agency said. It also added that the other members of the gang were still at large but had also been sentenced to 15-20 years in prison in absentia in accordance with the republic's criminal legislation.
