The leader of one of the gangs operating in the town of Arkalyk in Northern Kazakhstan was sentenced to death, Arkalyk's Prosecutor Munaitpas Kitamanov told a press conference. The gang leader had appealed to the Supreme Court, he said.
The organisations of two large criminal groups in Arkalyk that robbed and killed people had been broken up in 2001, the prosecutor said. All the members of the gangs received long jail sentences.
