A court in the Philippines meted out the death sentence to businessman Donaldo Padilla, 40, who arrested in possession of shabu worth about P600,000 in Las Pinas City in December 1995.
Padilla told the court he was arrested because he had refused to shell out P200,000 which he said a certain Colonel Alcantara demanded when he was brought to the police station in Kamuning, Quezon City.
But Judge Maceda said Padilla failed to prove that authorities had indeed tried to extort money from him.
