A Czech court set free Muhammad Salih the exiled leader of one of Uzbekistan's main opposition parties, saying he should not be extradited to the former Soviet republic, where he faces a long prison sentence.
"We were concerned he would face inhuman handling in Uzbekistan," judge Veronika Bohackova told Reuters, adding his trial in Tashkent may have not been objective. The court ruling had been expected after the state attorney proposed a rejection of extradition.
