A district court in Bangladesh sentenced two men to death and two others to life imprisonment in absentia for the kidnap and murder of a boy at Dhamrai in 1995. Abdul Wahab of Bowtia and Premnanda Mazumder of Barosh, Dhamrai, were sentenced to death while their accomplices Nityananda Mazumder and Bhalobasha Rani Mazumder of Barosh were awarded life imprisonment. According to the prosecution, the convicts kidnapped Binoy Chandra Mazumder, on March 23, 1995 and demanded a ransom of Tk50,000 for his release. His parents agreed to pay the ransom to the boy back alive. Accordingly they waited with the ransom money at the designated time and place. But apprehending police intervention the abductors killed Binoy and left the body near a pond in the village.
