A Eurobarometer survey of 10,000 young Europeans between the ages of 15 and 24 found that the number of respondents believing their generation to be in favour of the death penalty has fallen drastically since 1997, from 36% to 27%.
The survey, carried out in April and May 2001 at the request of the European Commission's Directorate-General for Education and Culture, questioned young Europeans on their lifestyles and the various big issues affecting today's society, such as the integration of foreigners, sexuality, cloning, euthanasia and the death penalty.
