A group of Costa Rican legislators has solicited to not send a representative to the Miss World contest, that will be celebrated next November on the 30th, in Nigeria, Africa. The request did it as signal of protest against the death sentence that has prevailed against Lawal Amine, a Nigerian woman, accused of adultery. Through a letter dated from September 25th, the 15 signers ask for Mrs. Olga Cozza de Picado, president of the board of directors of Teletica Canal 7, that the company abstains to send the Costa Rican representative to the contest. Channel 7 is the owner of the tax exemption of this beauty pageant. "We considered that our country must be united to which, like Belgium, Denmark, France, Kenya, Norway and others, have announced that will not send representative to the contest of Miss World (...), unless Nigerian justice annulls the imposed punishment to Mrs. Lawal", says the letter. Mrs. Cozza not yet has announced, because she is outside the country. Nevertheless, according to Ruth Chaves, ordered of the contest, so far she follows still on the participation of Shirley Alvarez, Miss Costa Rica World 2002, in the pageant. Meanwhile Miss Costa Rica World 2002, Shirley Alvares says ¨I have not been notified of no change of plans, these decisions takes the organization from the Miss Costa Rica, but if they ask If I want to go, I say yes . Obvious I am not in agreement with what is happening, but I believe that we can do much more meetings that each one in each country".
