A Jefferson County jury decided Renard Marcel Daniel, 28, should be put to death for killing 2 people execution-style on Sept. 26, 2001 after one of them used a racial slur and then apologized for it.
The jury of 7 whites and 5 blacks deliberated less than 30 minutes Friday before finding Daniel guilty of capital murder in the deaths of John Brodie, 35, and Loretta McCulloch, 39, both white. Jurors deliberated 80 more minutes before reaching a 10-2 vote that Daniel should receive the death penalty.
Circuit Judge Tommy Nail will sentence Daniel on May 9.
