A jury recommended that Paul McManus, 29, who shot and killed his estranged wife and 2 daughters last year, be put to death.
The jury's recommendation by law must be weighed heavily by Vanderburgh Circuit Judge Carl Heldt, who will sentence McManus at 1 p.m. on June 5. Heldt could sentence McManus to death, to life without parole or to a fixed term for murder.
McManus was convicted Thursday of 3 counts of murder in the Feb. 26, 2001, shootings of his estranged wife Melissa, 29, and their daughters Lindsey, 8, and Shelby, almost 2.
After the shootings, McManus failed in an attempt at suicide by jumping from one of the twin bridges into the Ohio River.
