A jury recommended the death penalty for Jathiya A. Al-Bayyinah for the 1998 murder of S.W. Brown Jr. Al-Bayyinah was convicted in 1999 of killing Brown and sentenced to death, but the state Supreme Court ordered him a new trial. The court ruled that a detective led the victim of 2 other robberies to identify Al-Bayyinah and a judge improperly allowed the testimony. Al-Bayyinah was convicted this past week.
