A Lahore courtordered a serial killer who had confessed to killing more than 100 children to 100 death sentences in which he was to die in the same manner he killed his victims. "Javed Iqbal was found guilty of 100 murders. The sentence is that he should be strangled one hundred times at Minar-e-Pakistan (a historical site in Lahore). His body should be cut into 100 pieces and put in acid, as he did with his victims," Judge Allah Baksh Ranjha said in his ruling. Police arrested Iqbal in February after he confessed in a letter that he had killed more than 100 children and disposed of their bodies by dissolving them in acid. Most of the children killed by Iqbal and his accomplice had run away from home. A report by the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan released on March 15 expressed shock that the parents of nearly one-third of the children killed had not reported them as missing to police or tried to find them.
