A man aged about 34 was sentenced to death for killing the elder sister of his divorced wife four years ago. District and Sessions Judge Ismail Mia handed down the capital punished to Rafiqul Islam of Nijpat Mahuthati village in Jaintapur upazila, in a crowded court. His brother was acquitted. The case in brief, Rafiq married Nearunnesa of the same village nine years ago. After about five years he divorced Nearun with a baby girl. Poor Nearun took shelter in the house of Altafunnesa, her elder sister. That made Rafiq angry. On August 15, 1998 he along with his brother Zahirul attacked the house and brutally killed Altafun. Her husband Abdur Rouf filed the case.
