A Pakistan court asked the military government to explain why a Palestinian jailed for the 1986 hijacking of a US plane in which 22 people were killed was extradited to the United States to face further trial after serving his sentence.
Zayd Hassan Safarini, who was extradited to the United States on September 30, was one of six Palestinians originally sentenced to death for his role in the hijacking.
The sentence was commuted to life in jail - which in Pakistan usually means 25 years - and then reduced further by a curious local law which counts a day and night in prison as two days.
U.S. President George W. Bush cited Safarini's extradition as progress in his war on terrorism. The five remaining hijackers petitioned the court to block any attempt by the United States to extradite them as well.
