A report released by Amnesty International stated that Jamaican police deliberately killed a group of young men in 2001 in a high-profile case known as the Braeton Seven. The deaths of the youths were part of a long line of extrajudicial killings of criminal suspects by the Jamaican security forces, the report said. Amnesty International had in the past labelled the Jamaican police force as one of the deadliest in the world for its violent history. The organization also said that authorities had carried out killings and torture with impunity. The Braeton Seven shooting erupted in a community by the same name west of Kingston, the capital. The killings occurred before dawn on March 14, 2001, as police approached a small house. Multiple shots were fired at Reagon Beckford, 15; Lancebert Clark, 19; Christopher Grant, 17, Curtis Smith, 20; Andre Virgo, 20; Dane Reynaldo Whyte, 19; and Tamayo Wilson, 20. Six of the youths were shot in the head, four of them multiple times, the report said. According to the report, flaws in the investigation and testimony from experts and witnesses led the organization to conclude that the killings ``amounted to extrajudicial executions.''
