A retrial produced the same result for Shelton Dewayne Jackson, who again received the death penalty for murdering a woman

A retrial produced the same result for Shelton Dewayne Jackson, who again received the death penalty for murdering a woman. A Tulsa County jury decided that Jackson, 30, deserves to die for the 1st-degree murder of Monica Decator, 23, on April 7, 1997. A different jury reached the same conclusion in 1998, but that outcome was reversed on appeal. District Judge Jesse Harris set formal sentencing for May 2. The state Court of Criminal Appeals in 2001 overturned his original murder conviction and death sentence upon deciding that Tulsa County public defenders did not provide effective legal assistance at the 1st trial.
