a Rogers County jury decided Benjamin Robert Cole Sr. should die for the death of his 9-month-old daughter, Brianna.
Cole was convicted yesterday of 1st degree murder, child abuse, by the same jury that sentenced him to die. The death of Cole’s 9-month-old daughter occurred in December 2002. Prosecutors said Cole was playing video games when Brianna's crying interrupted his game. Cole paused the game and went into the girl's room, grabbed her by the feet and pulled them toward her head, fracturing her spine. The court heard testimony about Cole’s past history of abusing both his former wives and children, and a 2-year sentence imposed in 1987 for aggravated child abuse. The 1987 case involved Cole’s then 6-month-old son.
