A suspected Palestinian suicide bomber was "executed in cold blood after his arrest", witnesses said .
The claims were backed by photographs taken from a nearby window showing Mahmud Salah, 23, being arrested, subdued, handcuffed, searched, stripped - then lying dead on the road with blood streaming from a head wound.
More than 10 Palestinians provided testimony to the killing. They said Salah, a member of the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades, had been held by the police for more than half an hour before his "execution" in the suburb of Beit Hanina.
One, Yehiya al-Waari, 56, said Salah "was assassinated half an hour after his arrest, after police completely subdued him".
He said: "[Salah] was handcuffed, then [the policemen] threw him against my car. Then a police bomb disposal unit arrived on the scene.
"A policeman put his foot on [Salah's] neck, others held his legs and hands. All the neighbours and myself saw from our windows how he was executed, half an hour after his arrest."
An anonymous caller from the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades, an armed offshoot of Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat's Fatah group, said Salah had been on his way to carry out a suicide bombing in east Jerusalem.
Israeli police defended the shooting, saying it was necessary to prevent the man from detonating an explosive device.
