A teenager was sentenced to death by hanging for the abduction and murder of eight-year-old Sadeepa Lakshan. A special three-judge bench of the High Court sentenced the 19-year-old teenager who, in October 1999, kidnapped Lakshan for a 2.5 million rupee ($31,500) ransom and then murdered him.
