Abdus Salam, a Bangladeshi police constable, was sentenced to death in absentia for shooting dead a female cook at his camp who refused his advances. Salam fired from his rifle in May 1996 at his remote camp in Habiganj district, 125 kilometers (75 miles) northeast of Dhaka, killing Nehar Begum and injuring a fellow constable.
