The Speedy Trial Tribunal of Chittagong, Bangladesh, sentenced to death Mohammed Akram Hossain, alias Ripon, and Jamal Hossain on charges of killing a teenage girl after raping her. According to sources, the two abducted the girl at gun point when she came out of her house on the night of May 22, 2002 at Mohonpur village in the Comilla district. The convicts, along with their two accomplices, raped the victim in a paddy field. As she had recognised them they doused her body with kerosene oil and set her alight. She was rescued by locals but died in hospital three days later.
