According to figures from Interior Ministry institutes, 85 per cent of the public favour the implementation of death sentences which have already been passed. Viewers watching the "Vox Populi" television programme on Russian NTV International were asked to call the studio to answer the following question: Are you for or against death penalty in Russia? Out of 8,596 callers, 6,436 were in favour, 2,077 were against and 83 were undecided.
