Acting High Commissioner for Human Rights Bertrand Ramcharan urged Uzbekistan not to execute prisoners who had appealed their convictions to a UN committee after reports of at least one such execution in the past month. During a visit to the country in March 2003 Ramcharan had "underlined the importance of respecting such interim measures of protection," a statement by Ramcharan's office read.
