in Algiers, Algeria, a criminal court sentenced two ringleaders of a GIA terrorist group operating in the Mitidja region to death. Rachid, known as Abou Tourab, and Laama G. Hocine, known as Mossaab, “sowed mayhem and destruction” for nearly a decade in the whole region. The arrests were made following the surrender in 2002 by Laama Hocine who confessed to the security services about the whereabouts of his GIA henchmen. Mossaab’s surrender came as he had earlier refused to carry out a suicide bombing in central Algiers at the behest of terrorist chief Abou Tourab.
Four other terrorists were given a 4-year prison term while 2 others were jailed for 10 years on charges of providing logistical support to the terrorist gang. According to figures issued by the security services and presented to the court, the indicted culprits were found guilty for the killing of a total of 121 people between 1994 and 2002.
