Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika commuted the death sentence of 116 prisoners, Algerian radio reported.
"One of the main measures which President Abdelaziz Bouteflika took at today's meeting of the Council of Minister was his decision to pardon on the eve of holy Id al-Fitr 116 common law prisoners who had been sentenced to death. This measure does not, however, apply to people who had been found guilty of carrying out terrorist acts," the radio said.
