American civil rights leader Jesse Jackson called on the United States to follow the example of the African National Congress in South Africa, in getting the death penalty abolished.
"The world must say no to killing as a way to stop killing," Jackson said in Durban at a discussion about the death penalty. He also criticised the US for withdrawing from the World Conference Against Racism.
