An 18-year-old man was sentenced to death for murdering a woman and her son in order to steal money in central Uzbekistan, the Uzbek newspaper Ozbekiston Ovozi reported.
After finding out that the branch of the People's Bank in Dzhizak Region's Dostlik District had received a large sum of money, Murodjon Musurmonov, who had previous convictions, planned to rob it, the report said. At about noon on 7 June, armed with a knife, he broke into the house of Barchinoy Mingboyeva, a senior bank employee, to get the keys to the safe where the money was kept.
"Awakened by the noise, Barchinoy found herself at knife point and being forced to hand over the keys to the safe. After getting the keys, he stabbed her to get rid of the witness. Murodjon caught ten-year-old Rustam dashing out, terrified by the scene, and plunged the knife several times into his chest," the newspaper said.
