An appeals court in the United Arab Emirates commuted a sentence against an Indonesian woman from death by stoning for adultery to one year in prison. The Fujairah Appeal Court ordered the woman to be deported after serving her sentence. It also sentenced her partner, an Indian, in absentia to one year in prison. In February, a court in Fujairah convicted the 35-year-old woman, named Kartini, of adultery and sentenced her to be stoned to death under Islamic sharia law. The woman worked as a housemaid in the UAE.
