An Iranian convicted of triple murder as he robbed a family home was hanged in the northwestern province of Khorasan, an Iranian newspaper reported. Qods said Hassan Abbassi-Hassanabadi was executed in Torbat-e-Jam, after first receiving 99 lashes. Caught during a robbery in 2001, he injured the parents of the household and then set the home on fire with the couple and their unconscious daughter trapped inside. Islamic laws in force in Iran lay down capital punishment for rape, armed robbery, drug trafficking and murder.
