An Iraqi and his Jordanian accomplice convicted of murdering a friend in January 2001 over a loan reimbursement, were executed at dawn at the Swaqa prison south of Amman, Jordan. The two were identified only by their first names, Jordanian national Ward A. and Iraqi national Ali J. The victim, Wisam Horani, was struck on the head and stabbed to death by the pair when Ward refused to reimburse a loan of 140 dinars (200 dollars), press reports said. The convicted murderers "appeared calm and stable as they were escorted to the gallows", the Jordan Times quoted one official as saying, adding that Ali asked to be buried in Iraq.
