Anna Keral Galang, a representative in the Western Highlands Province of Papua New Guinea strongly called on the National Government to hang rapists and on the courts to issue the death penalty for the offence. Galang who worked for the National AIDS Council said Papua New Guinea was supposed to be a Christian country yet men continued to rape women and young girls. Such men should face the death penalty, she said. She asked why the government and the courts had not been able to use the death penalty to deal with the problem of rape which was on the rise in the country.
