Appeal Court Judge Jaran Pukditanakul broadly outlined key areas that the National Human Rights Commission needed to address, including a study of whether existing laws and government rules and regulations infringed on or contained elements which violated the people's rights. He said the whole judicial system needed to be looked at to ensure that it was supportive of human rights and promoted fairness and justice in society. Summary execution of drug suspects and the tough legal process and punishment for youths meted out by the Criminal Court instead of the Youth Court were two obvious cases that need to be addressed, he said.
