APPEAL COURT UPHOLDS RAPIST’S DEATH SENTENCE

the Court of Appeal, in Kenya, upheld the death sentence imposed by the Nyeri High Court on a man who raped a 7-year-old minor, causing her death. Dominic Maina was convicted of raping Rachel Wangeci Maruhi on 7th October 2000, causing her grievous injuries and forcing hospital doctors to conduct an unsuccessful operation to save her life. Although nobody witnessed the rape, the girl told her mother and two other witnesses that Maina had lured her into his house and raped her on his bed. Police recovered bloody bedding from the accused’s house the following day.
