Attorney-General Qoriniasi Bale says confusion may have arisen about the death penalty provision under the Military Act

Attorney-General Qoriniasi Bale says confusion may have arisen about the death penalty provision under the Military Act.
Senator Bale said the bill to amend the Penal Code would become law and the death penalty would no longer be imposed. However Section 115 (4) of the constitution will remain "because it is difficult to amend the Constitution", but it will not be used.
He said under the Fiji Military Act, those convicted of mutiny would get a mandatory death sentence. But he said there was provision in the Fiji Military Act which gave the president the power to remit that sentence from one of death to life imprisonment.
