BANGLADESH. 15 PEOPLE SENTENCED TO DEATH FOR FIVE MURDERS IN LOUHAJANG

fifteen people were sentenced to death in Dhaka, nine of which in absentia, for the murder of five people at Bagra bazaar in the Louhajang district in 2001.
Speedy Trial Tribunal judge Sahed Nooruddin handed down the death penalty to six people in the dock, including Ayub Ali, Salam, Mannan Shah, Mahfuz, Shafiul Azam and Hashem, all aged between 30 and 40. Those sentenced to death but still on the run were: Farooq Gazi, Kuti Chand, Sabuj Ali, Nazir, Nizam, Ripon, Abdul Mannan, Zabed Ali and Mizan.
They were sentenced to capital punishment for the murder of Monwar and his supporters Anwar Ali, Salhuddin, Badsha and Hashem following deadly clash on July 7, 2001 as a sequel to a longstanding feud. Monwar was also president of the local Bangladesh Nationalist Party group. 
According to the prosecution, Monwar and his supporters were going to Bagra bazaar when the convicts attacked them with a gun and other weapons.
